LGBTQ+ Talent Mobility and Business Considerations Amidst a Shifting Legislative Landscape

For the past two decades, the LGBTQ+ movement has made significant advancements in equality, inclusion, and belonging in nearly all aspects of society and culture. Today, that progress is being challenged with pervasive intensity.

Since 2015, anti-LGBTQ+ legislation has been on the rise. 2023 set an all-time record, which 2024 is well on pace to surpass with 475 pieces of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation already introduced in US state legislatures. These bills have devastating impacts on LGBTQ+ people, their families, their workplaces, and their communities. Out & Equal’s latest report, Talent on the Move–Where Do We Go From Here? examines how shifting public policy has impacted LGBTQ+ individuals and allies and identifies the actionable steps employers can take to effectively respond.

Released and presented at the 2024 Out & Equal Leadership Forum, the report found and elevated critical insights surrounding:

  • The US legislative landscape’s impact on LGBTQ+ people and allies;
  • The effects of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation on LGBTQ+ employees and allies; and
  • LGBTQ+ employees and allies’ expectations of employer support.

The findings uncovered in this report enable employers to reflect on their workplace policies and identify concrete strategies designed to advance LGBTQ+ equity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace and beyond.

This research reflects Out & Equal’s dedication to supporting employers and individuals to foster true workplaces of belonging. It’s important to note that this was an independent survey conducted by Out & Equal without direct influence from Wells Fargo or its Foundation.
