The 2023 Workplace Summit session examines how “covering”—downplaying or hiding aspects of identity—affects LGBTQIA+ employees’ well-being and performance. Speakers explore the four types of covering and how intersectionality and psychological safety shape employees’ decisions to be out at work.
Through research and personal stories, the session highlights the emotional toll of covering and the critical role leaders and allies play in fostering inclusion. The discussion closes with a call for organizations to measure covering behaviors and create environments where employees can fully show up as themselves.
