Today, Out & Equal welcomes the introduction of the Equality Act in the Senate. The Equality Act would provide clear and permanent protections under federal law for LGBTQ Americans in key areas of life, including employment, housing, access to public spaces, credit, education, jury service, and federally funded programs.

“With its introduction in the Senate, the Equality Act is closer than ever to becoming law,” said Erin Uritus, CEO of Out & Equal Workplace Advocates. “Congress must act swiftly to pass the Equality Act and close the door on discrimination against the LGBTQ community.”

“For decades, companies have been leading the way in LGBTQ equality and inclusion, and major employers continue to call for the Equality Act to become law. These companies understand the need for a federal standard that protects all employees in the workplace and beyond, no matter where they live, who they are, or who they love.”

Following the Equality Act’s introduction in the House last week, Present Biden released a statement in support of the bill and urged Congress to swiftly pass the legislation. President Biden deserves praise for his commitment to advancing equality, cementing LGBTQ protections, and exemplifying leadership for all Americans.

The House of Representatives is expected to vote on the Equality Act later this week.
