Active Allyship at Work

The word “ally” has become so widely used that some people argue that it has lost its meaning. Unfortunately, research suggests that in some cases, allyship has become no more than a buzzword to indicate support.

However, real allyship is powerful and transformative in workplaces and builds inclusive culture. This learning session challenges participants to re-envision the term “ally” by connecting it to the concept of taking action in small but tremendously impactful ways.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Articulate what allyship means for them and understand their personal commitment to the business of belonging for LGBTQ+ people;
  • Make the case for why allyship to people who are LGBTQ+ is more necessary than ever;
  • Understand the disconnect between workplace policy change and culture change –and how they can be part of re-establishing connection; and
  • Identify specific ways to change their behavior that both signal allyship and educate others towards a more inclusive workplace for all.
