About

The Out & Equal Seattle Regional Affiliate is dedicated to helping employee resource groups (ERGs) foster an inclusive environment for all Pacific Northwest companies by fostering cross-company communication, sharing best practices, providing professional networking and development opportunities, and engaging in our communities.

Our Affiliate began when a group of LGBT employees from leading employers in the Northwest region met in 2007 to discuss the state of workplace equality and how best to collectively affect change. The meeting was lead by representatives from the Starbucks Coffee Company and Microsoft, but quickly engaged interest from across the spectrum of Northwest companies. This group helped spur many of the changes that have made our workplaces more supportive of LGBT professionals and their families, including protections for LGBT employees, same-sex domestic partner benefits, and transgender inclusive practices.

Today, our affiliate continues to educate, strengthen, and inform ERGs and professionals across the region. We welcome new companies and individuals to join us and help make Washington State employers the best workplaces for LGBT professionals.

Our Structure

Our Affiliate is led by the Out & Equal Seattle Regional Affiliate Council (“Council”), which is comprised of one member from each ERG in the Seattle area. The Council is led by an executive board (“E-Board”) comprised of Council members who desire to have a great level of involvement by taking on additional responsibility.

Council members are selected by their company’s ERG to serve a two year term. The Council meets the last Friday of each month, with each company taking turns hosting the meeting. Executive Board members are elected by Council members to serve two year terms.
