San Francisco, 8/15/2011 - Are you out at work, or in the process of coming out at work? Out & Equal would like to hear your story.
The telling of one’s personal story is one of the most powerful ways we can communicate, make personal connections, and create change. And, we know that coming out, and being out, as LGBT in the workplace can be daunting, and that everyone has a different experience. We invite you to submit a short video or written story to our Get Your Story Out project. By telling your story, you can help others on their own path to being out–and equal–in the workplace. We think that this kind of sharing, in addition to training and education, is the best way to keep the conversation about equality going, and can move us all towards a safer, more supportive workplace.
Submitting a Video via YouTube
Submit one video, less than 5 minutes in length. Group videos–ERGs and other employee groups are invited to submit videos–can be 10 minutes in length. Upload a video on your YouTube account. Use the title “Out at Work” and include your name and location – ex: “Out at Work – John Doe, Dallas.” Use tags to describe your video so that other people can find it. Email us at email@example.com to let us know your video has been posted. Out & Equal may use your video on our blog, website, or other communication channel.
Written Submissions/Interviews with Out & Equal Staff

Questions to Consider for Your Submissions
If you are out at work: what steps did you take to come out, and stay out, at work? What were your challenges, and how did you overcome them? Did your Employee Resource Group (ERG) or Human Resources (HR) department support you, and if so, how? How has Out & Equal impacted you? If you are not out at work: what roadblocks or challenges are you experiencing? Have you approached your ERG or HR departments? Have you experienced resistance or harassment? How can others help support you?
