SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – September 6, 2007 – Selisse Berry, founding executive director of Out & Equal Workplace Advocates, the only national non-profit organization devoted exclusively to workplace equality, participated in the first-ever Global Summit of the International Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (IGLCC) September 2-3, 2007, in Barcelona, Spain.
Berry spoke to attendees on a panel titled, "Diversity Management and Human Resources: Beyond the Pink Ceiling," centered on workplace equality issues, LGBT diversity policies, and ways in which some companies are leading the way through bold initiatives that include: training on LGBT issues and policies for their employees, encouraging senior executives to come out, becoming role models, and acting against homophobia.
"The conference was phenomenal in many ways," Berry said, "it is sure to have a profound impact on furthering international workplace equality."
Joining her on the panel were: David Pollard, ING Group; Bernardo Hernández, Google Inc; Paul Overdijk, TNT; and Frank Uffen, Instituto de Empresa Business School, Madrid.
Berry and other participants had a unique opportunity to meet with the Right Honorable Ernest Benach, president of the Parliament of Catalonia; several other members of parliament, including Rafael López and Laura Massana; and Emili Valdero, Secretary for Commerce and Tourism of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia.
The conference was organized by the Gay and Lesbian Club of ESADE Business School, Xarxagay LGBT Professionals, and the Harvard Gay and Lesbian Caucus in Spain.
