Out & Equal Workplace Advocates applauds the decision of the New Jersey Supreme Court in Lewis v. Harris. New Jersey’s top court ruled on October 25, 2006 that laws preventing lesbian and gay couples from getting married were unconstitutional and discriminatory. The state legislature must find a way to provide equal access to the rights, responsibilities, and benefits of marriage to gay and lesbian couples.
Out & Equal realizes that when state law recognizes a legal relationship between LGBT adults, the workplace becomes a more equal place. The rights, responsibilities and benefits of marriage include family leave, partner benefits, pensions and insurance, and much more. If you or your business are concerned about how the New Jersey ruling may impact your business, please contact us or visit Lambda Legal for more information.
We congratulate Lambda Legal and Garden State Equality on this historic victory.
