An Executive Message

From Founding Executive Director Selisse Berry:

Selisse BerrySpring greetings from San Francisco!

As the winter begins to fade, the energy of renewal and the momentum of new hope are rising to carry the banner of LGBT equality forward in 2012.  And in this new year, our community has much to anticipate--a critical presidential election, the resolution of California's Proposition 8 saga, Out & Equal's very first Global LGBT Workplace Summit in London, July 5-6, and, of course, our annual Out & Equal Workplace Summit in Baltimore in October

We have started the year with tremendous success. Out & Equal welcomed more than 40 high-ranking and emerging lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) corporate leaders from around the world to participate in an intensive three-day leadership seminar at the 2012 Executive Forum. Forum participants focused on ways to further equality in the workplace on a global scale, considering innovative ways to effectively implement non-discrimination policies and equal benefits within their corporations.

In March we paused to celebrate Golden State Warriors President and COO Rick Welts,  Houston Mayor Annise Parker, and country musician star Chely Wright, for their extraordinary contributions in advancing LGBT equality at the 5th Annual Leadership Celebration.

And throughout the remainder of 2012, Out & Equal will continue to spread the message of LGBT workplace equality with our partners around the globe. At the Global LGBT Workplace Summit in London, July 5-6, we will come together to share our best practices, engage with colleagues from around the world, and strengthen the diversity of our increasingly global and interconnected workplaces. Executives, LGBT employees, human resources professionals, diversity & inclusion staff and more will find practical and engaging ideas to take home to transform their workplaces.

2012 holds much promise, hope, and excitement for big strides in equality, both at home in the United States and around the world. Be brave! Be bold! But most importantly, be a part of this important work.

To a year of equality,

Selisse Berry
