Welcome to Baltimore and the
2012
Out & Equal Workplace Summit!
For more than a decade, the Out & Equal Workplace Summit has
inspired lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) employees
and allies to make real change in their workplaces. Dedicated people
are literally making workplace equality a reality for millions of
employees around the world. The Summit convenes these leaders to
celebrate our successes, share best practices, and plan next steps.
This year, we celebrate the power of telling stories. Sharing
our personal stories is one of the most powerful ways we can
communicate, make personal connections, and create change. Coming out, and being out, as LGBT
individuals and allies in the workplace can be daunting, and everyone has a different experience.
In our exciting new book,
Out & Equal at Work: From Closet to Corner Office
,
I joined thirty six
corporate leaders and equality advocates to share how workplace climates can change to value,
affirm, and protect diverse employees. The book will be published in February, but we have some
pre-release copies available for you in the Outie Store this year.
Thank you for all that you do. You are making a difference through your presence here and, even
more importantly, through what you do back home. This Summit would not be possible without
hundreds of volunteer workshop presenters and panelists, who readily share their expertise to
make our time here so valuable. Thank you also to the many corporate and individual volunteers
who give their time and energy to make this the best Summit ever. Thank you!
We are deeply grateful to each of our many sponsors, in particular to our 2012 presenting sponsors
Hewlett-Packard and IBM. Please visit the Exhibit Hall and let all of our sponsors know how much
we appreciate them! Thank you to the Out & Equal board of directors, whose dedication and
enthusiasm have been phenomenal. Finally, thank you to the Out & Equal staff. They have worked
tirelessly to ensure that this Summit is the best yet, and I am so happy to work with them every day.
